Invitation Letter

Greetings

Dr. Don Schertz and Dr. Tom Stewart taught their last classes and advised their last senior  projects as full time professors this past semester. These two ECE faculty members retired in May after many years of service to the ECE Department and Bradley University. Dr. Stewart graduated with his BSEE degree in 1959 from Bradley (the first class) and Dr. Schertz graduated with his BSEE degree in 1960 (obviously the second class.) They both taught for a few years then took some time off to earn their MSEE and PhD degrees. If you count their time as students, Tom Stewart has been part of the Bradley community for 53 years and Don Schertz for 52 years; more than a century combined. Obviously, their retirements mark an end of an era and, to recognize this unique event in the history of the department, the ECE Department is throwing the “End of an Era” bash. The Bash will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008 as part of Homecoming 2008, about which more information can be found at http://www.bualum.org/homecoming/. The tentative schedule for The Bash is as follows.

ECE Department Open House in Jobst Hall: 1pm to 5pm

Reception in Student Center Ballroom: 5pm-6pm with munchies and beverages

Buffet Dinner in the Student Center Ballroom: 6pm-7:30 pm

Speakers and a faculty "roast" in the Student Center Ballroom: 7:30pm-9:30pm

As an alumnus of the ECE Department, I invite you and a guest to attend The Bash. To reserve a spot, you can call or email the ECE Department secretary (Becky) confirming that you will attend and if you will be bringing a guest. Her office phone is 309-677-2727 and her email is rsk@bradley.edu. Once you make a reservation, a confirmation letter will be mailed to you. It is important to make a reservation as soon as possible since the Student Center Ballroom can only comfortably accommodate 450 people. If you cannot attend, I urge you to send letters to Tom and Don wishing them well. Also, be sure to include any notable and/or funny events from your student days in which Tom or Don were participants. Send your letters to me and I’ll hand deliver them to the old fellows.

Sincerely,

Brian D. Huggins (aka BDH)

Chairman

ECE Department
