Range-Finding Rear-Collision Accident Prediction and Warning For Motorcycles with Integrated Signal Vest

Parts - LED Vest

The LED vest will have many copies of one part. The SK6812 is a GRB individually addressable LED. GRB is only different from an RGB because of the order of programming. When programing the SK6812, the green color is programed first, then red, then blue. The vest can be any material, but will need to be large enough to fit over a motorcycle jacket. To make the LED vest, there will be a grid of LED's attached to the vest. Currently, it is projected that 70 LED's will be used for the vest in a 10X7 grid. The 70 LED's was chosen based off of how much current they draw. The grid proportions are to fit the system onto the back of a rider. The LED's are going to be on small individual PCB's that have trace pads to allow easy soldering to a wire. The wire that will go between each LED/PCB will have extra length than what is needed for the distance between the LED/PCB's. This will be done to allow for extra movement with the system on the rider. The last part of the LED vest subsystem is the connection to the bike. The LED vest will require power, ground, and data lines from the bike to the vest. The connection between the bike and the vest must be breakable. An accident can be made immensely more dangerous if the rider is physically connected to the motorcycle that is about to flip. A magnetic connection between the bike and the rider will allow a strong connection in the wind and breakable connection in an accident.
