ALU DESIGN FOR A RISC PROCESSOR
By: Adem Kulauzovic &
Chris Lucht
Advisor: Dr. Vinod Prasad
Overview: With the assistance
of four other groups, will will use the VHSIC Hardware Description Language
(VHDL) to design and implement a functional Reduced Instruction Set Computer,
or RISC, Processor. The ALU will be first designed using L-edit, to get
the VLSI desgin. From that we will implement it into VHDL so it can
be implemented using a Field Programmable Gate Array, or FPGA. This
will allow simple and fast reconfiguration of the processor for specific
applications. This project will give us a better understand about using
XILINX Foundation software, VLSI and VHDL design, and understand XILINX
XC4003E Development Board. Our focus is the Arithmetic logic unit of the
processor, which will be in charge of performing all logic and arithmetic
commands.
