I have been in contact with the M.E. department about an E.E. project
for the SAE formula car this year. I have been talking to Adam Heisel
(A.J)(engine group leader) and Dr. Morris (faculty advisor) about potential
projects. They say that they are still interested in projects from last
year but did offer a suggestion if those were too complex to finish this
year. Both myself and AJ would like to see something that could be
realistically used on this year's car. I am meeting again with them next
thursday to refine project goals and such so all i have right now for
submission is a rough idea.

PROJECT TITLE: untitled
PROJECT ADVISORS: Dr. Anakwa and Dr. Morris
PROJECT DESCRIPTION (not concise):
Sensors measuring axle speed will be outfitted to the car, one on each
rear axle -- two so that things like slippage can be detected. another
sensor will measure engine speed. once this information is obtained,
in conjunction with gear ratios, the engaged gear can be determined
lighting one of six LEDs on the dashboard (six-speed transmission).
this configuration can also be used to obtain information for an
electronic tachometer. engine speed can be obtained from the sensor
while the output is sent to a string of LEDs ranging in color to
indicate RPM range. also, 0-60 acceleration time and other
performance specs can be measured and either displayed in the car or
written out to a file to be dowloaded onto a computer at a later time.
