The Alternative Energy System project, started last year by Mr. Eric Alig, is a system which supplies a constant DC voltage to a load by managing the voltage input of two independent DC power supplies, a wind generator and a solar cell. The system incorporates the use of both analog and digital hardware including optical isolation, switch-mode conversion, and microprocessor utilization. A problem area which occurred last year and will require immediate attention this year, is in the use of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) with a optical isolator.
