Phase-Locked Loop Analog Compensator Design
by David Tran and Kent Ponton Advisor: Dr. Gary Dempsey The objective of this project is to investigate the effect of using different compensators in a phase-locked loop (PLL) system. The phase-locked loop used in this project is a unity feedback system comprised of an Exclusive-OR gate phase comparator, a compensator, an error amplifier, and a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). Utilizing a compensator other than a simple lag network in a PLL can
prove beneficial. A decrease in settling time, an increase in stability,
and reduced cost are among some of the benefits. Through this project,
a more economical and advanced PLL system will be developed with many applications
in industry.
