Touch Screen Video Interface for Control of a CD Changer

by
Bruce Bitner and Rob Tilton
Advisor: Dr. D. R. Schertz

A Motorola 68HC11 microcontroller was implemented for touch screen control of an Alpine CD changer, for enhancement of the user interface in an automobile. A TMS9118 video processor was used to display current status of the changer (time, track and disc.), and a diode matrix touch screen is employed for an input/output device. A special purpose 68HC11 system was built to perform the control functions. This included interfacing with the CD changer via the Alpine serial communications bus, updating the video graphics, and responding to the touch screen input.
