Adaptive Noise Cancellation
by
James J. Caffery & David E. Kreml
Advisor: Dr. T. L. Stewart

An adaptive system that eliminates unwanted noise by producing the anti-noise over a loud speaker has been developed. An adaptive IIR algorithm was used to produce the anti-noise which is added to the original noise to obtain a cancelling effect. Two microphones and a speaker were necessary. One microphone measured the noise source. The second microphone measured how effectively the noise was being reduced and was used to modify the weights of the adaptive filter. The algorithm used for the IIR adaptive filter was the RLMS algorithm and was implemented on the TMS320C25 digital signal processing board.
