An All Digital Frequency/Phase Tracker and Bit Synchronizer
Implemented at Base-Band
by Michael Fitzgerald & Cindy DeCapp Advisor: Dr. J. W. Sennott Modern digital communications has created a demand for optimum processing
systems able to receive low power signals in the presence of noise. Since
reference oscillators may drift and any part of the communications system
may be in motion, receivers must be able to track signal frequency and
phase. Knowledge of bit transition locations relative to the beginning
of a binary message must also be determined. An all digital receiver to
meet these requirements has been analyzed, designed, and implemented. Implementation
includes an analog hardware communication channel with A/D converters and
a PC interface. Structured programming in Matlab is then used for coherent
processing and demodulation of signals.
