Computer Controlled Satellite Dish
A system has been developed for United Artists Cablesystems for positioning
a satellite dish. The system will allow an operator to enter commands and
data into a PC, which will relay to the dish controller. The controller
will apply the appropriate signals to the dish motor, causing the dish
to move to the desired location.
by Dennis B. Hamon and Tuan V. Nguyen This system uses an Intel 8751H microcontroller for its central processing. The PC interface is accomplished through serial communication. All of the controller signals are carried on a single coax cable which also carries the satellite signal being received. The intent of this project is to improve the reliability of the cable
service, as well as to reduce the overhead costs associated with providing
special programming.
